Description

Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment contains chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by stopping bacteria from producing essential proteins needed for growth. This helps eliminate the infection and reduce inflammation. The ointment consistency allows it to remain in contact with the eye for longer, providing sustained antibacterial action.

Benefits include:

  • Effective against common bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Longer-lasting coverage compared to drops
  • Helps reduce discharge and swelling

With regular use as directed, symptoms often begin to improve within a few days.

Directions

Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Gently pull down the lower eyelid and apply a small strip of ointment (about 1cm) into the affected eye. Close the eye for a short time to allow the ointment to spread evenly. Use as directed, usually 3–4 times daily, and continue for 5 days even if symptoms improve sooner. Temporary blurred vision may occur after application.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Chloramphenicol 1% w/w.
The ointment base may include liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin to provide smooth application and prolonged contact.

Always check the packaging for a complete and up-to-date ingredient list before use.

Warnings

For external ophthalmic use only and suitable for bacterial infections only. Do not use if you are allergic to chloramphenicol or have a history of blood disorders linked to its use. Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment. If symptoms do not improve within 48 hours, worsen, or if you experience severe pain or vision changes, seek medical advice. Keep out of reach of children and do not use beyond the expiry date.
