Description

Emla Numbing Cream is formulated to provide effective surface anaesthesia when applied to intact skin. It helps minimise discomfort associated with needles or minor dermatological procedures. Emla Numbing Cream is suitable for use under medical supervision and for certain at-home cosmetic treatments where advised.

  • Contains lidocaine and prilocaine
  • Provides temporary numbing of the skin
  • Commonly used before injections and minor procedures
  • Suitable for adults and children as directed

Directions

Apply Emla Numbing Cream exactly as directed by your doctor, pharmacist or according to the patient leaflet. A thick layer of Emla Numbing Cream should be applied to the area and covered with an occlusive dressing if advised, allowing sufficient time for the numbing effect to develop, usually around one hour before the procedure. The amount used and application time depend on the size of the area and the type of procedure. After the recommended time, remove the dressing and wipe off Emla Numbing Cream before the procedure begins.

Ingredients

Emla Numbing Cream contains two active ingredients, lidocaine and prilocaine, which are local anaesthetics that work by temporarily blocking pain signals in the nerves. Each gram of Emla Numbing Cream typically contains 25 mg of lidocaine and 25 mg of prilocaine.

Emla Numbing Cream also contains excipients such as macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, carbomer and purified water to create a smooth, stable formulation.

Warnings

Do not use Emla Numbing Cream if you are allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine or other local anaesthetics of the amide type. Avoid applying Emla Numbing Cream to broken skin unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional. Use caution when applying large amounts or using on young children, as excessive absorption may increase the risk of side effects.

If redness, swelling or signs of an allergic reaction occur after using Emla Numbing Cream, seek medical advice immediately.

Emla Numbing Cream is a topical anesthetic used to temporarily numb the skin before minor medical or cosmetic procedures. It helps reduce pain or discomfort during injections, laser treatments, and small dermatological procedures.

  • How does Emla Numbing Cream work on the skin?

Emla contains local anesthetics that block nerve signals in the applied area. This reduces the sensation of pain by temporarily numbing the surface of the skin.

  • How long does it take for Emla Numbing Cream to start working?

The cream typically begins to numb the skin after being applied for a short period under proper conditions. For best results, it is usually applied in advance so the anesthetic effect can fully develop.

  • Can Emla Numbing Cream be used before cosmetic treatments?

Yes, it is commonly used before procedures such as laser hair removal, microneedling, and dermal treatments. Applying it beforehand helps make these procedures more comfortable.

  • Are there any precautions when using Emla Numbing Cream?

The cream should only be used on intact skin and according to medical guidance. It is important to avoid excessive use and keep it away from the eyes or broken skin.
