Overview

What is Dymista?

Dymista is a prescription nasal spray used to treat moderate to severe allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever. It helps relieve symptoms such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes.

How does Dymista work?

Dymista contains two active ingredients that work together:

  • Azelastine – an antihistamine that blocks histamine, the chemical responsible for allergy symptoms.
  • Fluticasone propionate – a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation inside the nose.

By combining these two medicines in one spray, Dymista targets both the allergic reaction and the inflammation, making it effective for people whose symptoms are not controlled by antihistamines alone.

What is Dymista used for?

It is commonly prescribed to treat symptoms of:

  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Sneezing
  • Runny or blocked nose
  • Itchy nose
  • Itchy, red, or watery eyes

Directions

Dosage (Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over)

One spray in each nostril twice daily (morning and evening).

This dosing provides the recommended daily amount of Azelastine and Fluticasone propionate contained in the spray.

Method of administration

Dymista should be used in the nose only.

  • Shake the bottle gently before use.
  • Prime the spray before first use by pumping several times until a fine mist appears.
  • Blow your nose gently before using the spray.
  • Tilt your head slightly forward (do not tilt it backwards).
  • Insert the nozzle into one nostril and close the other nostril with a finger.
  • Spray once while breathing in gently through the nose.
  • Repeat in the other nostril.
  • Wipe the nozzle and replace the protective cap after use.

Important instructions

  • Use the spray regularly for the best effect.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  • Avoid spraying directly into the eyes.
  • If the spray has not been used for several days, re-prime before use.

Dymista can be used for as long as exposure to allergens continues, as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

Side effects

Common side effects:

Some people may experience:

  • Bitter taste in the mouth
