What is Losec MUPS used for?

Losec MUPS is commonly prescribed for:

• Acid reflux (GERD) – when stomach acid flows back into the oesophagus, causing heartburn, burning sensations, chest discomfort, and sour taste
• Heartburn & indigestion
• Stomach and duodenal ulcers – treats and helps prevent recurrence
• Healing the oesophagus when acid irritation has caused inflammation
• Preventing acid‑related symptoms in people taking NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen)

How does Losec MUPS Work?

Like other PPIs, Losec MUPS:

• Blocks acid‑producing pumps in the stomach
• Reduces excess acid for up to 72 hours
• Helps the stomach and oesophagus to heal
• Provides long‑lasting relief from reflux symptoms

Who is Losec MUPS suitable For?

Losec MUPS is typically recommended for:

• Adults experiencing frequent or ongoing acid reflux
• People with diagnosed GERD
• Those who need ulcer healing or prevention
• Patients who struggle to swallow standard capsules (MUPS can be dissolved or dispersed)

 

Losec MUPS are generally:

• Taken once daily, usually in the morning
• Can be taken with or without food
• Tablets can often be dispersed in water for easier swallowing

For safety and accuracy, the dosing and administration should follow the guidance given by your clinician or pharmacist.

Since Losec MUPS contains omeprazole, the side effects and warnings are the same as for other omeprazole products:

Common side effects include:

• Headaches
• Nausea
• Bloating
• Diarrhoea
• Constipation

More serious (rare) risks include:

• Severe allergic reactions
• Liver problems
• Skin reactions like Stevens‑Johnson Syndrome

Precautions:

• Avoid if allergic to omeprazole or PPIs
• Long‑term use may reduce vitamin B12 or affect bone strength
• Discuss if you have liver disease
• May interact with blood thinners, antifungals, or HIV medicines
