The Mounjaro dose schedule
Here's what the standard Mounjaro dosing schedule looks like if you're tolerating the medication well and your dose increases every 4 weeks. Please note that every patient's journey is different and you may not necessarily need to be increased to the maximum dose. Maintenance plans are also reviewed on an individual basis:

| 1-4 | 2.5mg | £169 |
| 5-8 | 5mg | £189 |
| 9-12 | 7.5mg | £259 |
| 13-16 | 10mg | £299 |
| 17-20 | 12.5mg | £309 |
| 21+ | 15mg | £319 |

Progress with HEBA will be different for everyone but your goals can be reached in time with our full support. Here is a general programme plan with what you can expect.
Month 0-3

The first month focuses on adjustment, not quick weight loss. Hunger and cravings decrease as the body adapts. Consistency is key.
- Start feeling less hungry
- Less food noise
- Noticeable weight loss progress and more energy
It can take up to 8 weeks to start feeling the effects of your medication, but it will start working in your body after the first week.
Months 3 - 6
Positive changes
From months three to six, weight loss is clear. Smaller portions help with calorie deficit.
- A noticeable reduction in bodyweight
- Be more active and making healthier food choices
- With HEBA Online Pharmacy, gain education on relationship with food
As your dosage increases you should see changes in your weight and your lifestyle.
Months 6+
Maintenance phase
After six months, many reach a new weight. Focus shifts to maintaining results and preventing regain.
- Continued weight loss
- Improvements in measurable health metrics e.g. reduced blood pressure, improved cholesterol or blood glucose control
- Formulate a personal comprehensive plan for long-term weight control
This is a period where you’ll see sustained weight loss and be in a consistent weight management rhythm.

Customer Success
After losing 17kg with medication and committing to the gym, I’ve finally learned to love myself again. For the first time in years, I feel proud, confident, and truly in control of my life.
I've lost 13kg, but honestly the bigger win is how I feel.
I started HEBA's weight loss program not really knowing what to expect. A year on, I'm 13kg lighter, I've cut out sugar, and I'm at the gym four times a week — something I never thought I'd say. The team checked in regularly and kept me on track, but the habits are mine now. I've got my energy back, and for the first time in years, it feels sustainable.
Frequently asked questions
-
What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a prescription-only weight loss injection containing tirzepatide. It is licensed in the UK for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
-
How does Mounjaro work?
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which uniquely activates both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. This dual-hormone action reduces appetite, slows gastric emptying, and improves blood sugar regulation — helping you feel fuller for longer and eat less overall.
-
How much weight can I lose with Mounjaro?
In clinical trials, participants using Mounjaro at the highest dose (15mg) lost an average of up to 22.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks. Results vary depending on individual factors including starting weight, diet, and activity levels. Mounjaro is currently the most effective licensed weight loss injection available in the UK.
-
How is Mounjaro administered?
Mounjaro is given as a once-weekly subcutaneous (under the skin) injection using the pre-filled KwikPen. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The day of the week can be chosen by you and changed if needed, as long as injections remain at least 3 days apart.
-
What doses does Mounjaro come in?
Mounjaro is available in the following doses: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg. Treatment always starts at 2.5mg once weekly for the first 4 weeks, with gradual dose escalation every 4 weeks to minimise side effects and allow your body to adjust.
-
Do I need a prescription for Mounjaro?
Yes. Mounjaro is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM) in the UK. At HEBA Online Pharmacy, you will be required to complete a clinical assessment before a prescription can be issued. This ensures Mounjaro is safe and appropriate for you.
-
Who is eligible for Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is suitable for adults who meet the following criteria: BMI of 30 or above, or BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidaemia. It is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those with certain medical conditions including a history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis.
-
What is the difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy?
Both are once-weekly injectable weight loss treatments, but they work differently. Wegovy contains semaglutide and acts on GLP-1 receptors only. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Clinical trial data suggests Mounjaro produces greater average weight loss than Wegovy, making it the more effective option for many patients.
-
What are the common side effects of Mounjaro?
The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal in nature and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and reduced appetite. These are most likely to occur during the dose escalation phase and typically improve over time. Taking Mounjaro with food and staying well hydrated can help minimise these effects.
-
Are there any serious side effects I should be aware of?
Serious but rare side effects include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and hypoglycaemia (particularly if taken alongside other diabetes medications). Stop using Mounjaro and seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe and persistent abdominal pain, as this may indicate pancreatitis.
-
Can I take Mounjaro if I have type 2 diabetes?
Yes. Mounjaro is also approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in the UK under the brand name Mounjaro. It can improve blood sugar control alongside its weight loss benefits. However, your prescriber will need to review your full medication list, as dose adjustments to other diabetes medications may be required - this is difficult to monitor in an online setting and therefore we cannot prescribe online in this instance.
-
Can I drink alcohol while taking Mounjaro?
Alcohol is not contraindicated with Mounjaro, but it is advisable to moderate your intake. Alcohol can worsen gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea and may contribute to hypoglycaemia in patients also taking diabetes medications. It also adds excess calories, which may undermine your weight loss progress.
-
How long do I need to take Mounjaro for?
Mounjaro is intended for long-term chronic weight management. Most patients will need to continue treatment to maintain their weight loss results. Stopping Mounjaro without lifestyle changes in place may result in weight regain. Your prescriber at HEBA Online Pharmacy will review your progress regularly.
-
