Nevolat doses and titration schedule

Here's what the standard Liraglutide dosing schedule looks like if you're tolerating the medication well and your dose increases every week. Please note that every patient's journey is different and you may not necessarily need to be increased to the maximum dose. Maintenance plans are also reviewed on an individual basis:

Week Daily Dose
Week 1 0.6mg
Week 2 1.2mg
Week 3 1.8mg
Week 4 2.4mg
Week 5 onwards 3.0mg (maintenance)

What is Nevolat?

Nevolat (liraglutide) is a prescription weight-loss injection used to help adults (and some adolescents) lose weight when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Administered through a daily self-injection, Nevolat contains the active ingredient Liraglutide, which mimics a naturally occurring hormone that helps suppress appetite. By helping you feel fuller for longer, Nevolat supports sustainable weight management in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

How does Nevolat work in the body for weight loss?

Liraglutide is a medicine that mimics a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1.

What is GLP-1?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone your gut releases after eating. It plays a key role in controlling appetite and blood sugar.

GLP-1 slows how quickly the stomach empties, helping meals feel more satisfying and keeping you fuller for longer. It also sends signals to the brain that reduce appetite and curb cravings.

After eating, GLP-1 boosts insulin release as blood sugar rises and suppresses glucagon, a hormone that would otherwise raise your blood sugar between meals. This helps keep energy levels steady throughout the day.

By activating the GLP-1 receptor, Saxenda helps you feel satisfied with smaller portions and makes it easier to stick to a reduced-calorie diet.

GLP-1 is the same receptor targeted by Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide). The main difference between these medicines and Saxenda is the shorter half-life of medicine and therefore a daily injection is needed.

How should Nevolat be taken?

Nevolat must be started low and increased gradually to minimise side effects such as nausea. This approach is called titration, and helps the body adjust to the medication whilst maximising weight loss results with minimal side effects.

The Nevolat dose schedule

Here's what the standard Nevolat dosing schedule looks like if you're tolerating the medication well and your dose increases every week:

Nevolat dosage Week
0.6mg 1
1.2mg 2
1.8mg 3
2.4mg 4
3mg (maintenance) 5 onwards

The full treatment dose is maintaned at 3mg once daily. Some people may stay on a lower dose for longer if side effects occur. We would only recommend an increase in dose if your current dose is well tolerated.

What results can you expect with Nevolat?

In major trials over approximately 56 weeks, adults using Nevolat lost on average around 8% of their body weight. Approximately 70% of patients lose >5% of their body weight and around 30-35% of patients lose >10% of their body weight with continued treatment.

What are the potential side effects of Nevolat?

Most people get some side effects early on, but many settle as the body adjusts—especially with slow dose increases.

Common side effects

These are very common, particularly in the first few weeks:

Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Stomach pain or bloating
Reduced appetite
Indigestion / heartburn

Most side effects are gastrointestinal related and temporary, especially nausea.

How long will I need to stay on Nevolat?

Nevolat is assessed early to see if it’s actually working for you.

You’ll usually stay on it for up to 16 weeks (including the dose-escalation period).
If you’ve lost at least 5% of your starting body weight by then → it’s considered effective, and you can continue.
If you haven’t reached 5%, guidelines recommend stopping, as further benefit is unlikely.
This protects people from staying on a medication that isn’t helping.

If it is working:
If you respond well, Nevolat is typically used long term.
There’s no fixed maximum duration as long as:

  • You’re benefiting
  • Side effects are manageable
  • Regular reviews say it’s still appropriate

I've lost 13kg, but honestly the bigger win is how I feel.

I started HEBA's weight loss program not really knowing what to expect. A year on, I'm 13kg lighter, I've cut out sugar, and I'm at the gym four times a week — something I never thought I'd say. The team checked in regularly and kept me on track, but the habits are mine now. I've got my energy back, and for the first time in years, it feels sustainable.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is Saxenda?

Saxenda is a prescription-only once-daily injectable weight loss treatment containing liraglutide 3mg. It is licensed in the UK for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

  • How does Saxenda work?

Saxenda contains liraglutide, which mimics the action of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a natural hormone produced in the gut after eating. It works by reducing appetite, slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach, and signalling to the brain that you are full — helping you eat less and lose weight over time.

  • How much weight can I lose with Saxenda?

In clinical trials, patients using Saxenda lost an average of 8–9% of their body weight over 56 weeks when combined with diet and exercise. Around 6 in 10 patients lost more than 5% of their body weight. Individual results will vary depending on starting weight, adherence, diet, and activity levels.

  • How is Saxenda administered?

Saxenda is given as a once-daily subcutaneous (under the skin) injection using the pre-filled pen. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm at any time of day, with or without food. Try to inject at the same time each day to maintain a consistent routine.

  • What doses does Saxenda come in?

Saxenda is available as a 6mg/ml solution in a pre-filled pen. Treatment always begins at a low starting dose of 0.6mg once daily for the first week, with gradual weekly escalation: 0.6mg → 1.2mg → 1.8mg → 2.4mg → 3mg. The full maintenance dose is 3mg once daily. Slow escalation helps minimise gastrointestinal side effects.

  • How is Saxenda different from Wegovy?

Both Saxenda and Wegovy contain semaglutide and liraglutide respectively, and both are GLP-1 receptor agonists. The key differences are that Saxenda is injected once daily while Wegovy is injected once weekly. Wegovy has also demonstrated greater average weight loss in clinical trials. However, Saxenda remains an effective and well-established option for many patients.

  • How is Saxenda different from Mounjaro?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, while Saxenda acts on GLP-1 receptors only. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection whereas Saxenda requires a daily injection. Clinical trial data suggests Mounjaro produces the greatest average weight loss of the currently available options. Your prescriber at HEBA Online Pharmacy can help determine which treatment is most suitable for you.

  • Do I need a prescription for Saxenda?

Yes. Saxenda is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM) in the UK. At HEBA Online Pharmacy, you will need to complete a short online clinical assessment before a prescription can be issued by one of our qualified prescribers. This ensures Saxenda is safe and appropriate for your individual circumstances.

  • Who is eligible for Saxenda?

Saxenda is suitable for adults who meet the following criteria: BMI of 30 or above, or BMI of 27 or above alongside a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidaemia. It is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with a history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis, or those with type 1 diabetes.

  • What are the common side effects of Saxenda?

The most frequently reported side effects are gastrointestinal and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. These are most common during the dose escalation phase and tend to improve as your body adjusts to the medication. Taking Saxenda at a consistent time each day and staying well hydrated can help reduce these effects.

  • What happens if I miss a dose of Saxenda?

If you miss a dose and your next scheduled dose is more than 12 hours away, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is less than 12 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Never take two doses in one day to make up for a missed injection.

  • How long do I need to take Saxenda for?

Saxenda is intended for long-term chronic weight management. If you have not lost at least 5% of your body weight after 12 weeks at the full 3mg maintenance dose, your prescriber will review whether continuing treatment is appropriate. Stopping Saxenda without sustainable lifestyle changes in place may result in weight regain.
