Customer Success
After losing 17kg with medication and committing to the gym, I’ve finally learned to love myself again. For the first time in years, I feel proud, confident, and truly in control of my life.
I've lost 13kg, but honestly the bigger win is how I feel.
I started HEBA's weight loss program not really knowing what to expect. A year on, I'm 13kg lighter, I've cut out sugar, and I'm at the gym four times a week — something I never thought I'd say. The team checked in regularly and kept me on track, but the habits are mine now. I've got my energy back, and for the first time in years, it feels sustainable.
Frequently asked questions
-
What is Wegovy?
Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg) is a prescription-only weight loss injection approved by the MHRA for use in the UK. It belongs to a class of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by mimicking a natural hormone that regulates appetite and blood sugar. It is administered once weekly via a pre-filled pen and is indicated for long-term weight management in adults.
-
How does Wegovy work?
Wegovy works by mimicking GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a hormone released naturally after eating. It signals to your brain that you are full, slows the rate at which your stomach empties, and reduces food cravings. Over time, this leads to a sustained reduction in calorie intake and body weight.
-
How much weight can I lose with Wegovy?
In the STEP 1 clinical trial, participants lost an average of 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks when combined with lifestyle changes. Some participants lost over 20% of their body weight. Individual results vary depending on adherence, diet, and activity levels.
-
What is the difference between Wegovy and Ozempic?
Both contain semaglutide, but they are licensed for different purposes. Ozempic (0.5mg–2mg) is licensed for type 2 diabetes management, while Wegovy (up to 2.4mg) is licensed specifically for weight management. Wegovy is dosed at a higher level and is the appropriate prescription for weight loss treatment.
-
What is the difference between Wegovy and Mounjaro?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it acts on two hormones rather than one. Clinical trials suggest Mounjaro may produce greater average weight loss than Wegovy. Both are MHRA-approved for weight management in the UK. Our prescribers can advise which is more suitable for you based on your medical history.
-
Who is eligible for Wegovy?
Wegovy is suitable for adults who meet the following criteria:
- BMI of 30 or above, or
- BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol)
-
Can I get Wegovy if I have type 2 diabetes?
Yes, in many cases. Wegovy is not licensed for type 2 diabetes, but it can be prescribed for weight management in people with type 2 diabetes if eligibility criteria are met. Our prescribers will review your current diabetes medications carefully, as dose adjustments may be required — particularly if you take insulin or a sulfonylurea.
-
Is Wegovy suitable if I have thyroid problems?
Wegovy is contraindicated in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or MEN2. If you have other thyroid conditions such as hypothyroidism, this does not automatically exclude you, but our prescribers will assess your suitability on a case-by-case basis.
-
Can I take Wegovy if I am on other medications?
You should disclose all current medications during your consultation. Wegovy can interact with oral medications by slowing gastric emptying, which may affect their absorption. It is particularly important to flag any diabetes medications, blood pressure treatments, or oral contraceptives.
-
How do I get started?
Complete our online consultation, which asks about your medical history, current medications, height, and weight. A UK-registered independent prescriber will review your answers. If suitable, your prescription will be issued and your medication dispatched from our GPhC-registered pharmacy.
-
Do I need a face-to-face appointment?
No. Our service is entirely online. However, our prescribers may contact you for additional information if needed before issuing a prescription.

-
What are the common side effects of Wegovy?
The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal and tend to be most noticeable during the dose escalation phase:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Abdominal discomfort
- Reduced appetite (which is also the intended effect)
These typically improve as your body adjusts to the medication.
-
Are there any serious side effects I should be aware of?
Less common but more serious side effects include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or a lump in your neck. Full safety information is included in the patient information leaflet supplied with your medication.
-
How can I reduce nausea when starting Wegovy?
Eating smaller meals, avoiding high-fat or spicy foods, eating slowly, and staying well hydrated can all help. Most patients find nausea improves significantly after the first few weeks. If symptoms are severe or persistent, contact our clinical team — a dose pause or slower escalation may be recommended.
